Market Studies:

Gift card sales totaled $97 billion in 2007, up from $83 billion in 2006. (Tower Group)

In a nationwide Angie´s List poll, 86 percent of respondents say they feel gift cards are an appropriate holiday gift; and 80 percent of respondents are hoping to find a gift card in their stocking this year. (2007)

The most sought-after gift this year is the gift card, according to the National Retail Federation survey. About 54 percent of consumers want to receive a gift card or gift certificate.

Online gift card sales continue to grow -- a recent Forester Research study reported that 18 percent of online consumers said that they plan to spend more on gift cards this year than last year.

Virtually all (92%) of consumers polled in a recent Amex study agree that gift cards have altered how they shop.
