New Software from Smart Transactions Systems makes Gift Card Programs more Affordable for Small Merchants

Boulder, CO November 21, 2002, Smart Transaction Systems, Inc. a leading provider of card-based transaction processing solutions, recently introduced a new innovation that helps many small businesses eliminate one of the major hurdles that often makes gift card programs too costly for small businesses. Smart Transaction Systems has developed a new gift card "applet" that adds gift card capability to specific models of VeriFone and Thales (formerly Dassault AT) credit card terminals. This enables merchants that have specific models for VeriFone and Thales (formerly Dassault AT) credit card terminals to process their gift card transactions on their existing terminals.

"The VeriFone Tranz 330 and 380 terminals have been around for a long time and a very large number of merchants still use them. Our gift card applet makes it easy for those merchants to use existing equipment to process their gift card transactions," says Jojo Fladmark-Hauge, Director of Project Management at Smart Transaction Systems. The gift card applet is loaded onto the terminal and runs on the same terminal as the credit card software. This makes gift card programs more affordable by eliminating the need to purchase a separate point of sale terminal for gift card transaction processing.

The Smart Transaction Systems has made versions of its gift card applet available for the VeriFone Tranz 330, VeriFone Tranz 380, VeriFone Tranz 460 and all versions of the Thales Talento terminal.
